Max Schmelling

The Maxmillian guesthouse, known as the Deutsches Haus since 1930, was bought in 1930 by the German boxer Max Schmelling, heavyweight champion of the world on 23 June 1930, as a wedding present for his brother Rudolf. He married Miss Nanni Niesek from Zittau on 2 September 1930. Max Schmelling was married to the Czech actress Anna Ondráková.

After the war, the building became a cultural house, then a barracks for the border guards and a recreational facility of the OSP Ústí nad Labem.

Privatized

After the revolution in 1989, the building was privatized under the name Penzion Dvořák, then Penzion Světlá.

Iveta and Zdeněk

In 2019, the property was purchased by two enthusiasts, the current owners Iveta and Zdeněk, who returned the name Maxmillian to the guesthouse.

The restaurant has opened

After a major renovation, the restaurant reopened in July 2019. Homemade Czech cuisine is cooked with quality ingredients, including popular specialties.

Guesthouse has opened

In November 2019, the guest house was reopened. After a general reconstruction, there are 7 rooms with a total capacity of 16 people, furnished in a higher standard category.

Max Schmelling

Max Adolph Otto Siegfried Schmeling

He was a famous boxer, originally from Germany. He was born on 28 September 1905, the eldest of three children. From 1930 to 1932 he was heavyweight champion of the world. He won against Jack Sharkey and boxer Joe Louis. To this day he is considered one of the most popular German athletes. During his career he boxed 70 professional fights, winning 56 of them (40 of them K.O.). Max died near Hamburg on 2 February 2005, at the age of under 100.

Anna Sophie Ondráková

Max Schmeling's wife was born on 15 May 1902 in Poland. She grew up in Pula, Croatia and lived in Prague from 1913. She met her husband in 1930 and they lived in Germany. She became an actress of European stature, including cooperation with Hitchcock, for example. Her best known films include Blackmail, The Reason for Divorce, Gypsy Love, Karel Havlicek Borovsky and It Must Be Nice, among many others. The couple spent 57 years together until Anna's death in 1987.
